Happiness has slipped from my grasp years ago. What's left is an empty shell, kept warm on the peripheries only by the radiating happiness and dreams of my children. My core remains cold and hollow, unable to support any seeds of hope. Just a fallow, desolate and barren wasteland where memories blur with the passage of time. An icy land that love has long since abandoned. My children will move along in their lives. My contact with them will lessen over time as they grow. Our love will still burn bright, but now only from a distance. That distance will degrade the peripheral warmth, allowing the cold nothingness to expand its dark tentacles and creep into the last vestiges of warmth.
