Holding a grudge and never trusting a person again are two completely different things. When holding a grudge, you hold anger inside of you for your entire life. You can't move forward because you constantly think of what that person has done to you. You'll hurt yourself more than you can ever hurt them. Remembering what they've done to you and never trusting them again doesn't mean that you're vengeful, if you forgive them and move on that's great. But it's smart to remember what they've done to you, and to be cautious. If you don't want to return to the same state of friendship as before, that's fine. That doesn't mean that you hate them, you may just need some time and space from them. Or simply talk to them, broken friendships may take a while to be fixed, or not fixed at all. But it doesn't hurt to try, it's better than staying angry at a person. -Steven Evans
