That doesn't mean he never got mad, but he chose to transcend the negative energy around him. He once told Red & some of the other inmates about the inner music he had, but they were oblivious to what he was talking about in themselves. Red in the movie got mad when Andy Dufresne talked about getting out of prison, because Red didn't believe he could get out or could survive outside the prison. I have people that live around me that don't believe in themselves. And they live like many prison inmates: they get mad when you're happy and they seek to exploit what they think is your weaknesses.
