When introvert Andy Dufresne approaches Byron Hadley, in the movie ''Shawshank Redemption'', after ''overhearing him complain about being taxed on an inheritance'', who initiated conversation? Andy didn't initiate conversation. The judgment to send him to prison where he fights for his life initiated conversation. The atrocious treatment he and other inmates received by the guards initiates conversation. He converses with the guards as a way to get out of his unfortunate situation which he has no power to get out without a plan. That conversation later led to his freedom. Self-preservation is natural response and the reason why people appear to initiate conversation.
