When a lie is told to protect me, when a lie is told to avoid conflict, it denies me the opportunity to show my inner strength and denies the liar the ability to demonstrate their own conviction. How I react to that lie, is also a measure of me. If I allow it to lead me to act in ways that betray my own convictions, if I plan revenge and seek retribution, I will have exceeded the cruelty of the original infraction. It is at this time that I have the ability to demonstrate to myself, the strength of my conviction. As Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong". By demonstrating the strength of my conviction, at this difficult time, I remain true to myself.
